Three tight races in regional vote

Rome, March 29 – Projections from Sunday’s and Monday’s vote in 13 Italian regions see three neck-and-neck races while the center right appears to be the clear winner in four regions and the center left in six.

The tightest race is in Lazio where center-right candidate Renata Polverini and center-left candidate Emma Bonino are both projected with 48.9% of the vote.

In Piedmont, center-right candidate Roberto Cota has a slight lead over rival Mercedes Bresso, 48.4% to 46.8%, while in Liguria it is the center-left candidate, Claudio Burlando, who leads over Sandro Biasotti of the center right, 51.9% to 48.1%.
Projections show the center left holding onto the regions of Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Basilicata and Puglia.
The center right appears to have won Calabria and Campania from the center left and reconfirmed its hold on Lombardy and Veneto.
According to the deputy secretary of the center-left Democratic Party, Enrico Letta, only Piedmont and Lazio are up for grabs while the center left will win in seven regions and the center right in four
