Aruba down nel data center di Arezzo, ancora nessuna comunicazione

Da più di un’ora il data center di Aruba sta riscontrando un downtime completo del data center e dei servizi del più grande provider italiano del settore domini e webhosting: al momento non vi è alcuna comunicazione da parte dell’hosting provider, mentre i messaggi su Twitter, come la scorsa volta, continuano ad aumentare.

Nell’ultimo downtime del data center le comunicazioni erano giunte tramite l’account Twitter della compagnia.

Al momento non ci sono notizie da questa fonte, in molti parlano di un problema agli UPS che non è però verificato e va quindi preso solamente come rumor.

La compagnia sta terminando anche la realizzazione del nuovo data center di Arezzo, il cui obiettivo è tra l’altro quello di ridondare interamente i servizi della compagnia.

In attesa di notizie, auguriamo allo staff di Aruba di risolvere al più presto il problema per un ritorno online del data center.

So what is “downtime” anyway? Downtime, with regard to the web, is when a particular application (like a website), cannot be accessed by its users. Two different terms are commonly used to describe the varying degrees of system unavailability. “Hard downtime” is the term used when a system is completely unavailable to its users, while” soft downtime” describes a system that is merely exhibiting poor performance. It’s easy to see that when users don’t have access to a website at all, dollars are being lost, but things like slow website load times actually cost companies three times more money.

RAID 1 – Mirroring – Fault Tolerance

Definition: RAID 1 mirroring is an arrangement of hard disks that creates an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data on two or more disks. This is useful when read performance or reliability are more important than data storage capacity.

RAID I, for example, writes two copies of the data simultaneously on two separate drives. This is called fault tolerant because if one of the mirrored drives suffers a mechanical failure (e.g. spindle failure) or does not respond, the remaining drive will continue to function.

1and1 Dedicated Hosting: Cheap, but…

Some of you may have noticed that seologs.com and dnscoop.com were down last night. Both are hosted on the same dedicated server at 1and1.com. This server has been running like a charm for well over a year now. No problems.

Out of habit, I immediately called 1and1. They are always good about answering quickly (I also have several sites hosted on their shared hosting) .
